Dark Days and Brighter Days for Northern Ireland Railways Reviews

4 Star RatingVERY COMPREHENSIVE RECORD OF A REMARKABLE TRANSFORMATION - 29 Jun 2016

The railways of Northern Ireland had been a real Cinderella, unloved by the Ulster Transport Authority, but were given fresh hope by new management in 1967. Then came the Troubles. Edwin McMillan tells a highly detailed story of the struggles, with piecemeal investment and some disjointed policies. This book presents a very personal angle on the events (most of the photographs are by the author)and ends with the railways in good shape with real hope for the future. It is good value for money and a great record of a heroic effort to serve the public in difficult times when journeys were by no means certain to be completed, let alone on time.
